About Us

Hi, the names Joshua Perry host of BetaClimbers

How did I get to where I am at today and what drives me to help you succeed in climbing?

From before I can remember I was introduced into the world   of climbing by my father, an already local climbing legend, Donald Perry.  He mentored and raised me on the   conglomerate rocks of   New Paltz, NY in the style of trad.   The climbing culture he raised me   in was strongly rooted in   a "leave no trace" mentality.

The goal of getting to the top wasn't about lowering the rock     to your   level but raising yourself to the required skill-set to   reach it.  A day out   climbing wasn't always about reaching   the top, its about coming   home safe so you can climb again.

After many years of climbing I was ready for my first "Big Wall" adventure.  So at the age of thirteen, we set off to Yosemite and in the valley we met, local legend, Ammon McNeely. As a team we climbed El Capitan's route the Zodiac in five days. I couldn't help but be forever changed by that one week living on rock. I decide that if I could make this my career then I would never work a day in my life.
My Career path was now clear and I   became a Rope Access Technician.   Today I run a company similar to the   image above. Climbing is not just a hobby but it is what puts   food on the table and the skills I have acquired are what get me   back home safely everyday.

Now a father of two I also feel compelled to pass down my knowledge. So as a hands on visual learner myself, YouTube videos where a no brainer as a method to do so, and BetaClimbers was born. In the beginning my videos   where meant to be home-movie style lessons for my kids. I   wanted to capture my real personality as well as my   knowledge, just in case the worse was to happen one day.   Word has got around of my Underground YouTube channel   and many have found the value in it. So much so that they   are pushing me on to keep creating. I'm on a mission now to   help others learn in the same style I was raised in and   potentially save lives. I want everyone to know that even   though climbing is a inherently dangerous sport  and that not all dangers can be removed they certainly can be mitigated with the right skillset. "Climbing is only as dangerous as a climber wants to make it" after all.

Thank you for stopping by I hope that we can share the same passion and possibly chat some time. Climb on 🤙
